The Life To Know Him

The Big Idea

“Tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Luke 24:49

The disciples had to wait before beginning their ministry because they needed the Holy Spirit’s empowering presence. But this waiting isn’t unique to them—it’s the pattern for all who follow Jesus. Before we can effectively represent Him to the world, we must first be filled with His Spirit, understanding that eternal life is fundamentally about knowing God personally, not just having information about Him.

The Simple Takeaway

We often think of faith as information we’ve acquired—beliefs we’ve settled on and can now live with. But Jesus calls us to something much more alive: a continuous, deepening relationship with God Himself through the Holy Spirit.

Person A

became a Christian years ago, received the Holy Spirit once, and has been living on that experience ever since. They know about God, can articulate Christian beliefs, but haven’t deepened their personal knowledge of Christ in years. Their faith feels static.

Person B

discovered that being filled with the Holy Spirit isn’t a one-time event but a continuous posture of openness. Each day they welcome the Spirit afresh, asking to know Jesus more deeply. Their faith feels alive because they’re always beginning again with God, always discovering new dimensions of His character.

Chambers calls us from Person A’s settled completion into Person B’s dynamic, endless knowing—where eternal life isn’t something we possess but someone we’re perpetually becoming intimate with.

What would change if you stopped thinking of your faith as something you’ve “got” and started thinking of it as an endless journey of knowing Christ more deeply?
