Getting There (2)

The Big Idea

“Come and see”

John 1:38-39

Relationship with Jesus is not something you hear about secondhand—it’s something you experience directly. The disciples asked where He was staying, and rather than give them an address, Jesus invited them to come and spend time with Him. This personal encounter is the core of becoming His follower.

The Simple Takeaway

Person A

Learns about Jesus through sermons, books, and teaching. They accumulate correct doctrine but never sit down to genuinely encounter Him themselves. Their faith remains intellectual and borrowed from others.

Person B

Moves past secondhand reports to direct encounter. They spend time in prayer, quiet reflection, and personal study until Jesus becomes real to them, not as a historical figure but as a present reality.

Chambers emphasizes that real faith requires personal encounter, not just good information.

How much of your faith is borrowed from others’ experiences versus rooted in your own genuine encounter with Jesus?
