Don’t Make Conditions

The Big Idea

“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

John 1:46

We constantly create conditions for belief: God has to work this way, the answer has to come this way, circumstances have to look this way. But God is not limited by our expectations. He delights in working outside our boxes, coming from places we didn’t expect, using methods that seem foolish to our logic. When we insist on conditions, we miss His work.

The Simple Takeaway

Person A

Has a mental picture of how God should work and looks for Him only within those parameters. Because His actual work often looks different, they miss Him entirely.

Person B

Keeps expectations loose and eyes open. They’re willing to be surprised by God, to follow Him even when He appears in unexpected forms and uses unexpected methods.

Chambers urges us to release our conditions and follow wherever God actually leads.

What conditions have you placed on how God can work in your life, and how might they be limiting you?
