Is Yours an Open or Closed Life?

The Big Idea

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink”

John 7:37-38

An open life is one that remains hungry for God, acknowledging its thirst and continually running to Him to drink. A closed life is one that has settled, stopped thirsting, and lives on yesterday’s water. God invites us to permanent openness—a sustained awareness of our need and a continuous return to His refreshing presence.

The Simple Takeaway

Person A

Experienced God’s presence at some point and has been coasting ever since on that memory. They’ve stopped being thirsty and become satisfied with spiritual memory.

Person B

Maintains an open, hungry heart. They remain aware of their spiritual thirst and continually come back to Jesus to drink. This keeps them fresh and alive spiritually.

Chambers calls us to never stop being thirsty for God, never stop coming to drink.

Have you become satisfied with past experiences with God, or do you maintain an active, present thirst for Him?
