True obedience is not rigid compliance to external rules. It’s the joyful response of someone who has encountered Jesus and trusts His heart completely. From this trust flows obedience—not because we have to, but because we genuinely believe that His way is better than our way, His purposes are worth abandoning our own.
The Simple Takeaway
Obeys out of fear or duty, resenting the restrictions and seeing God’s commands as limitations on their freedom. This joyless obedience is exhausting.
Obeys because they trust Jesus. They’ve tested His faithfulness and found Him trustworthy, so following His ways becomes joyful, liberating, and full of purpose.
