Untroubled Relationship

The Big Idea

“In that day you will ask in My name; for the Father Himself loves you.”

John 16:26-27

When we pray “in Jesus’ name,” we don’t use magic words—we enter into His intimate relationship with the Father. And the foundation of this whole transaction isn’t our effort or worthiness; it’s the Father’s love for us. The “untroubled relationship” is one where we know beyond doubt that God loves us, and we can ask Him for anything from that place of security.

The Simple Takeaway

So many of us approach God like nervous supplicants, hoping He might notice us and grant a favor. But Jesus describes a relationship where we can ask boldly because we know we’re loved, where our requests flow from unity with Christ rather than from desperation.

Person A

prays with anxiety, uncertain whether God will listen or respond. They feel like they’re asking a busy stranger for help. Their prayers often feel futile because they’re based on the unstated question: “Does God even like me?”

Person B

discovered the Father’s love and learned to pray from that security. When they ask, they’re not hoping God will suddenly decide to care about them; they’re asking from within an already-secure relationship. Their prayers flow from Christ’s nature in them, not from their own neediness. They experience the “untroubled relationship” Chambers describes.

Chambers calls us from Person A’s anxious petition into Person B’s confident intimacy—where we move from wondering if God will answer to simply asking what He wants to give us.

Do you genuinely believe the Father loves you—not as a doctrine, but as a lived reality that shapes how you pray?
